Earth Hour in Fuglafjørður

For the fourth year in a row, Fuglafjørður municipality and Visit Fuglafjørður celebrate Earth Hour by turning off all our town’s street-lights, the lights in the harbour and at the football pitch. We encourage our citizens to turn off non-essential electricity at home as well.

Usually, an unplugged musical event has been held in one of our cozy venues, lit only by candlelight. But this year’s Corona epidemic means people have to stay at home and apart. Therefore, we are going to utilize Fuglafjørður’s natural amphitheater shape!

The Culture House is centrally placed between the fjord and the village, and the houses are spread up on the hillsides around this central venue, like seats around the stage!

One of our best trumpet players, Johan Hentze, will play from the Culture House towards town, and hopefully his tunes will carry in the cool and calm evening air all the way throughout town. People are invited to either step outside into their gardens or open up the windows to enjoy the music – together, but apart, in the safety of their own home, as our government recommends.

And please – light a candle of hope for the environment, for our planet’s future, and for the fight against the Corona virus globally.
